Are School Lunches Setting Kids Up for Obesity and Poor Nutrition? (Interesting)

I'm sure it's obvious, America is in the middle of a HUGE weight crisis (no pun intended). Look around though seriously. Even most of our smaller people suffer from the skinny-fat syndrome. To be honest we're just plan old unhealthy, out of shape and overweight! As a Nation!

We need to start exercising more and eating better...period. And, like most things, it's going to have to start with how we bring up our youth.

The First Lady of the United States has thrown her hat into the ring and has created a movement called 'Lets Move' to help fight childhood obesity. This isn't something that we can run from or sweep under the rug. I suggest we all do our part, rather it's joining in with the Lets Move Movement or just doing your part at home.

I ran across an interesting article on the topic of childhood obesity and the idea of the school lunch system playing it's part. Let me know your thoughts on the topic if you have any. Check it out below.

Peace & Blessings!

Financial Literacy for our Youth...

Has anyone noticed our youth of today? Is it me or has our Nation lost touch with our youth?

I have a genuine love for the youth of the world. I mean, I believe the children are our future. We should teach them well and let them lead the way. We have to show them all the beauty the possess inside! :-) Okay, okay so Whitney and I happen to feel the same way lol. Seriously though, are WE (as adults) leading them down the right path? Or do WE (as adults) even really know the path that should be taken ourselves?

Are our children learning everything they need to know in school? Of course not but the schools are doing their part....what about us? The fact is that kids don't get taught true health, wealth and wisdom at school. I think they should be but they're not and it's not up to me to change the way the educational system is here in America. You see, it's like the lessons of the seasons. You can not change the seasons, but you CAN change yourself. Winter will definitely come around and instead of complaining about how cold it is every winter, just realize that you may need to buy a bigger coat ;-) (We'll get into all of this at a later time though).

What I'm getting at with all of this is that I feel that it's time for us to stand up and take our youth back. And what I mean by that is that it's time to stop sitting our children in front of the TV and expecting Nick Jr. to teach them. (I love Nick Jr. by the way but it happened to be the first thing to come to mind so please don't send the Nick powers that be after me lol). Seriously though, I love the Wii and all the playstation stuff for our kids but I just think, judging by the state of our Nation, it's a little too much useless information getting rammed into our kid's minds.

I remember eating dinner as a family when I was young. Talking about social activities and learning lessons of life from my grandparents. I remember not being able to watch certain TV shows or movies as well. Not as a punishment but because my parents realized that there were certain things my mind was ready for and others that it wasn't ready for. I also remember games and things of that nature being rewards instead of a babysitter. you see, the brain is a complex yet simple tool. It reminds me of a computer...one that is only as good as it's programmer. It has been proven that information over time bleeds through to the subconscious portion of the mind which in return physically creates life events and pretty much all that we see before us. Now you may not believe that but the thing is, it doesn't matter if you believe it or not it's still so. Some people overlook gravity and I think we all know how life ends up for those people.

The real point that I'm trying to make here is that most of the time what goes in comes out ;-) It's like the saying you are what you eat. That is true, if you eat junk you physically turn into junk and it works just the same for the mind. I don't have to try and prove this to you with a bunch of fancy words or scientific mumbo jumbo because the REAL proof is all around you. Look at the shape the world is in today and then tell me you don't understand my concern.

With all of this being said, I have chose to support a new youth movement. A movement that supports or youth's need for financial literacy. In my opinion there is never a better time to start learning about financial wellness than when you're young, full of energy and still have a decent memory ;-) If the youth are our future what kind of future will we all have if things continue in the route they are going? I understand that in today's society it's extremely difficult for working adults to focus fully on learning or teaching finances and money management skills to their kids. Or anything for that matter. But we do live in the information/Internet age and there is now more than enough information online. I have added a short video below featuring Malini Hoover the Founder & CEO of LELA Media Inc. She seems to have the right idea when it comes to dealing with our new-aged youth. She has created a site called www.iaam.com The Teen Entertainment & Life Skills Multimedia Network. Check this out and get your kids signed up for this. Until next time Peace & Blessings!

Information, Knowledge & Wisdom

I had a discussion with a friend just the other day about college and the educational system here in America. We got into the conversation because he has been debating with himself about returning to college to get his degree and go after that promised career you receive along with the little piece of paper the school issues ;-)

We begin to talk about the norm when it comes to the educational system here in the U.S. The whole talk of how a degree increases your chances of landing that perfect JOB. I begin to explain to him how I felt about what I like to call true knowledge.

Of course I let him know how good I thought it was for him to return to school and pursue any dreams he may have. A college degree is a great thing to have under your belt regardless who you are. There isn't any other place that I know of where you can receive so much information in one place along with so much praise from the public as well. But I do feel it's exactly that...just information. The U.S. school system doesn't really seem interested in teaching us how to apply the information that is given to us. Not only that but the system doesn't seem interested at all in teaching us how to build wealth and create continuous positive cash flow. Could it be that the system doesn't know how to teach wealth creation? Could it be that we're nothing more than modern day slaves only taught the information needed to keep us on the treadmill of life that will have us continue to create wealth for the creators of these educational systems and jobs?

The way I feel about college and the educational system as a whole in America may differ from a lot of individuals. In fact I usually expect to be met with resistance when it comes to these issues because of the mass perception of what is supposed to be and how it is supposed to be. As I said before, I love college and all forms of education but I also understand it's place in my life and the lives of others that are into building true health, wealth and wisdom. I'm back in college again myself these days but I also have a different perspective on the information I receive as well.

I have placed links throughout this post to a wonderful article by Robert Kiyosaki about the need, he feels, for two different educational systems. Of course being a financial expert, a wonderful author and speaker I'm sure Robert breaks this down a lot better than I can ;-)

Remember when receiving any type of new information let it sink into your mind and start the process of receiving the info with a clean slate (open mind). Remember we don't have to dispute everything that we don't agree with and changing your mind due to good information and intuitive thought doesn't make you weak. In fact it makes you human ;-) Change is in our nature and we're meant to grow through learning and experience...only trying to resist the flow and change of the Universe stops us from growing. Peace & Blessings!

(It starts with information. Applied information becomes knowledge. And Intuitive insight on how and when to use your knowledge becomes wisdom)

Will Smith's Philosophy on life is similar to mine

I wanted to start things off with this wonderful video from Will Smith. Will reminds me a lot of myself, as far as his philosophy on this ride that we call life. We must all realize that there is a certain power within us that connects us to all that is created. A certain something that makes us creators of our own outcomes in life. It's time for all of us to step back and begin to realize who WE truly are before we try and figure out things outside of ourselves ;-)
Enjoy the video. Peace & Blessings!
